@SimoneBolv It does not mean you have to remember something from the exact day. It is talking about the approximate time of 1 year. As long as it is close to 1 year, that is what "in the past year" means. It can mean 10 months or 14 months, because those are close enough to 1 year.

"In the past year" means the amount of time that has passed is 1 year.
So since it is September now, if you say "in the past year", it means from last September to this September.

It can mean the year prior or if you are recapping the year you are currently in and it is almost over.

@kachura: Of course there's something odd with your correct answer either. How can anyone remember exactly their 365 days ago? 😐 As an example, do you remember September 21st of 2016 just right now?

If today is September 21st, 365 days ago was September 21st, lol. Right?
You cannot remember everything in a year but you can remember the most important things that happened...
