In Spain we say "a punto de", as in "estar a punto de (algo)". Your sentences would be: "Estoy a punto de irme", "(Él) está a punto de acabar".
For the second sentence, you could also say "(Él) casi ha acabado" (as in "He's almost done").

Be about to can also be trasnlated as ESTAR POR. estoy por irme o estoy por terminar.
- Spanish (Venezuela)
"I'm about to leave" - Estoy a punto de irme.
"He's about to finish"- El está a punto de terminar.
When you talk about "about to", you can say "a punto de" or "ya mismo". "Ya mismo" is a bit more informal.
"I'm about to leave"- Ya mismo me voy.
"He's about to finish" - El termina ya mismom
