Question about English (US)

At my niece Maiko's school, they started to teach braille, pointings-characters, to all the 4th graders from last year. Being so young and quick at learning anything new, she can now read, or hand-read, any Braille signs or messages in public places. I first wondered what's the point in teaching Braille to children with normal eyesight. After seeing that she seems to have grown up a bit through this experience, though, I changed my opinon. Does this sound natural?
