"en" refers to something that was mentionned before. Since this sentence refers to "d'autres" (other things), it means that thing in question was mentionned before. So, it's always "il y en a plein d'autres".
If you want to say "il y a plein d'autres", you have to add the object.
eg "Il y a plein d'autres bouteilles de vin à la cave".
