Per favore = please

prego as also another meaning in italian, is used when you welcome someone at the door.... usually is like this: the one outside the door, while entering says "permesso" (can I come in?) the owner inside answers "prego", this is a polite way to welcome someone usually after prego you can add " si accomodi" (very polite and formal) or "entra" (more friendly)
