Would the doctor say "Lay flat on your back." or "Lie flat on your back."?

“Lay” is transitive, “lie” is intransitive.
For example, you “lay” the baby down on the bed, but you “lie” down next to it. “Lay” requires an object, “lie” does not.
So the doctor can only say “Lie flat on your back.”

They'd say either one, but I think, "Lie flat on your back" may be more common.
