"Sto vivendo" sottointende un cambiamento rispetto a un periodo precedente. "Vivo" è un abitudine. Di solito per dire il luogo in cui si abita si usa "vivo".
"Sto vivendo" per qualcosa di più astratto.
Es. "Sto vivendo la mia vita"
"Sto vivendo" gives the idea that you have changed something and you are doing something you didn't before.
"Vivo" is something you do everyday, an habit. Usually for the place where you live we use "vivo".
Ex. "Io vivo a Milano'"
