its depend of the genre of the word, if its female you use la

If you're talking about a girl, you use "la", it doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, the only thing that matters is the genre of the person you are talking about

That depends on the context and what function "la" has in the sentence...
It's about the gender of the word, not the gender of the meanings of the word. A girl is femenine but what about a table? See? You have to learn the gender of each word.
