There is no real difference. Coworkers are those who you work with. Colleagues and peers are interchangeable. If you consider school as work, then they are all exactly the same.

I read a slight difference between peers and colleagues. For me peers means friends and the people you interact with on a routine basis, mostly in an informal sense. Colleagues means people you associate with on a professional or semi-professional basis, who share a similar field of study/expertise.

A coworker is someone you work with. A colleague is someone in the same company or school as you. A peer is someone on the same level as you that shares a friendship, job, school or interest as you.
In terms of your sentence there would be more people in the group of peers than the group of colleagues and coworkers. From an observer it sounds most impressive if he won the respect of his peers.
