- Country or region Finland
It is true.
Swedish is used only few places on coast line and pretty much everyone can speak finnish. Some places minority can be really militant about this and refuse to use finnish under any situation to natives even thou they can speak it without any problems. If you are aiming to live in finland finnish is more important to learn on long run. There is historical reason for this as academic part of country was hundred years ago mainly swedish speaking.
Now days official status of swedish is mainly power game, example universities in finland have swedish speaking programs that have more starting positions compared population share than finnish speaking programs so it's easier to get higher education if you are from swedish speaking minority. We are speaking about 5% of population in finland that speaks swedish first and finnish second.

- Country or region Finland
@LisaPa finnish has most options in finland but you can also consider in english programs that our universities have. Swedish is suggested mainly if you consider studying in sweden (for medicine good option).
If you want to live in finland you need finnish as companies require finnish from their non-really-high-specialist employees and getting degree from here makes working visa process for much easier

You barely hear Swedish any where else than on the coast of Finland in my opinion, so it is better to learn Finnish if you want to talk to people.

Also, if you do not know any Finnish, there is a hard time finding a job in customer service even if you knew Swedish
