On "chante" souvent les louanges d'une divinité, on dira par exemple "chanter les louanges de Jesus/Dieu". Eloge est beaucoup plus général, ça peut même s'utiliser pour des choses abstraites, par exemple "Eloge de la Folie", "faire l'éloge de qqn". En conclusion je dirais plus que pour un usage moderne/courant il vaut mieux parler d'éloges, cependant les deux ont un sens très similaire !
