The Norwegian language is gendered (much like German, French etc.).
Den is used for masculine and feminine while det is reserved for neutra.

«It/That»
Den - hankjønn/hunkjønn
Det - intetkjønn (neutral)
En bil - bilen (masculine)
«Har du sett bilen min? Den er blå»
Have you seen my car? It is blue»
«Nei, jeg har ikke sett den. Eller vent, er det den der?»
No, I have not seen it. Or wait, is it that one?»
Et hus - huset (intetkjønn)
«Hvor er huset ditt? - Det er der borte»
«Where is your house? - It is over there»
«Det er» can also be used in situations when you in english would say «there is...». Det can be used when reffering to «something» «an unidentified thing» (idk this is hard to explain, hope that makes sense)
Different situations when det is used (ubestemt pronomen):
«Det er mange sauer på gården»
There are many sheep on the farm»
«Hørte du det???»
Did you hear that???
«Det gjør vondt!»
That/it hurts!
«Det ligner på en katt»
That/it looks like a cat
«Det regner»
It rains
