We have a lot of holidays. Some of them are based on traditional customs and others are established by government.
The traditional holidays are Children's day, Spring day, Autumn day and New year day and so on. The holidays established by government are Day of constitution, Day of constitution, Thanks for workers day, Green day, Tenno (our emperor)'s birthday.
Celebrations (not day off) are Hina-matsuri (celebration for young girls) and Obon (celebration for ancestors, most of companies and public offices are off), Setsubun (a tradition came from ancient China), Tanabata (a tradition came from ancient China), and this is not Japanese traditional one, Mother's day and Christmas.
