Nictation is rapid blinking and you usually only hear it used in science papers and stuff. For example, a cat has a nictating membrane (the white third eyelid you can see sometimes if you look closely). Blink just means the regular movement of closing your eyes briefly. Blink is much more common. Nictation is very very uncommon.
