"puhekieli" has a lot of shorten words and influences from other languages. "Kirjakieli" is more conservative and doesn't have those and is generally far less irritating to listen

Also, puhekieli varies depending on where you are. For example, eastern Finnish dialects are very different from those in south-western Finland. You can say the word "minä" (I or me) in many different ways, depending on what your local dialect is. like "mä", "mää" tai "mie".
