I lived in Venice for a while and I would say it's a lovely town with very friendly people and a nice lifestyle.
Venice also has 2 faces: the one the tourists see and the one the Venitian people live. So depending on how you experience the town you might see it very differently .
it's a place where cars have no access and people walk everywhere they need to go. Boats are a very common public transportation.
As it's a worldwide famous tourist destination, prices for anything ( from housing to food) are very high.
It's a unique town and when I am there I always feel that time goes by at a different pace compared to the "outside world".
I hope this answer your question a little!
