Scotland and England are both part of the United Kingdom (UK), but they are two separate countries.
The UK also includes Wales and Northern Ireland (not to be confused with Ireland which is a completely different country).
Great Britain is like the UK but without Northern Ireland included.
Scotland has a separate (but limited) government, but it also has representation in the UK Parliament (located in England) which supersedes the authority of Scotland's government in most cases. Therefore Scotland is ultimately governed by UK legislation (laws) and the UK Prime Minister.
However, things may change soon. There is the possibility that Scotland may leave the UK shortly (within the next few years) and become a fully independent state/nation.
Many people in Scotland are unhappy with England's decision to leave the European Union, and many people in Scotland would rather leave the United Kingdom and continue to remain part of the European Union instead.
