"Hyvää" is the partitive form of "hyvä", common in Finnic languages and Russian.
Hyvä päivä = A specific day is good, i.e. this particular day is a good day.
Hyvää päivää = A general form used to greet people, that doesn't specify that a certain day is good.
You can read more about partitive from Wikipedia which has a good article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitive_case
//edit: as someone below pointed out, Russian doesn't use partitive similarly (cf. above link) :)

- Finnish
- English (US) Near fluent
•Hyvä
-Example: a good person = hyvä ihminen
”Hyvä” is when you are talking about a thing witch you can count. (one day, two days, three days) It’s used when there is only one thing (you are talking about).
A good day = Hyvä päivä
•Hyvää
-Example: Good food = Hyvää ruokaa
”Hyvää” is when you are talking about a thing you can’t count.
Good milk = Hyvää maitoa
(you can’t count like ”one milk, two milks, three milks...”)
•So if the word in english has ”a” or ”an” before the word, when you translate it in finnish, you use ”hyvä” with the word.
If in the word in english has no ”a” or ”an” before the word, when you translate it in finnish you use ”hyvää” with the word.
A good day = Hyvä päivä
Good food = Hyvää ruokaa
I hope this was helpful! :)
- Russian
@roosawi There is no partitive in Russian. And to say "Hyvää päivää" in Russian, we use the basic form (perusmuoto).
