In casual use they are the same.
Technically, the first is only asking if it is physically possible (they have arms and the door is not too heavy), but the distinction is insignificant.

@rnsgrhm Other way around. and most people aren't too picky, but there are people who make a point out of correcting others with things like "I don't know, CAN you?" and other stuff.

@Cookiedoujones Exactly, though that one usually applies to
"Can I" vs "May I" questions.
Reminds me annoying elementary school teachers in response to the "Can I go to the bathroom?" question.
BTW, to my mind, "would you__" sounds a little stronger than "could you___"

They are basically the same, but "Close the door" is demanding someone to do it and "Could you close the door?" is asking someone to do it.
