Of course there is a difference!!!!
Ese means there, and aquel means over there. Basically aquel is further in distance than ese.

Don't pay attention to @angeloortiz and @Carolinaleonh. They don't know Spanish apparently.
There is a difference between "ese" and "aquel". As well as there is a difference between "este" and "ese".
"Este" is near from us. "Ese" is far from us. And "aquel" is even further from us.
