Question about Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong)
Hello! What do people in HK usually eat for main meals? (I know it might be rice and noodles, but what else?haha). Is food listed in this HK food plan commonly eaten by you? 香港人每日經常食甚麼?有包括圖片裏的食物嗎?

Oh yes but way more than that. Interestingly I have the exact same question for British people. Unfortunately I could not include much information here, contact me if your are interested.

@lkf123456 oh interesting. What other food do you eat? I'm a HK expat so my diet is actually more similar to the HK one than a Western one haha. I don't think my answer would help you. Try looking up recommended diets for British ppl on the govt website tho - it might give u an idea

well... it really depends on lunch or dinner; and depends on whether you eat outside or you cook by yourself.
btw, british gov website really?! I don't know UK, but for HK gov websites, sometimes things could be very different from what actaually is

@lkf123456 I mean what ppl eat if u cook for yourself at home :)
well every country usually has a govt health website that has recommendations on what to eat if you want to meet your daily calcium, iron, fibre needs etc. I understand some topics are political esp in HK but surely food and diet would be unaffected by politics I imagine?

Sorry did I sound political? I mean like the photo you attached, I will say these are very basic dishes that we will barely eat. As opposed to reality, our dishes are more complicated than that, i think which is exactly why you come to this app to ask a native instead of trusting entirely what the website says

@lkf123456 ah I see what you mean! I misunderstood you I think. Yes I understand what you mean now. I guess I just want to compare calcium and iron intake differences between HK diets and western diets. I find it interesting

Wow. I will say, for dinner, we usually have few dishes (depends on the family size), rice, and a soup.
e.g. for soups: 青紅蘿蔔湯、蕃茄薯仔湯、西洋菜豬肺湯
e.g. for dishes: 白菜牛肉、煎雞翼、炒菜心、肉餅、蒸水蛋、炆豬手、鯇魚
and a looooooooot more

@lkf123456 thanks for sharing! That's so interesting and funny - only funny because my diet is so similar to what you mentioned despite not living in HK haha. Except maybe I have beef and milk more

I think if your parents are from Hong Kong, then its normal to have similar diet.

@lkf123456 yes that's a good point. Although Chinese veges are still more expensive in western countries than in HK (5x more expensive depending on where you are) so I'm a bit surprised my family didn't buy western veges more than chinese ones
