Adding "the" would show there is only one "Facebook," whereas Facebook wouldn't have the same implication.
Having "the" in front of a company is a trite naming convention for many companies in the past (think The warner brothers and such).

Thefacebook was the original name for Facebook. This scene apparently covers the time in 2005 when the rapidly growing company decided to drop the "The" from the name.

"the facebook" was (and perhaps still is) the colloquial name for the House directory at Harvard. It is a book of photos of people's faces from their student id along with their name and address.

Newer companies that try to be hip or associate with the masses tend not to use "the." For example: Instagram, YouTube, Google, HiNative, etc.
After writing this, I realize they seem mostly technology companies that omit the "the."
