I don't live there, but a few fare estimate calculators gave me an average cost of about £70

I would say the best way to get from Heathrow to central London is on the tube (London Underground). Black cabs are notoriously expensive and the traffic is always bad.
Heathrow's website says the cost for a cab is between £45 and £70 =)

Seconded. Get the Underground from Heathrow to central London. Even on the train it will take you almost two hours.
