@Sandrakohai: i've heard young girls, mostly teens, calling themselves boku when talking to friends, but is better to use watashi.

I think if that girl acts like a man or she does pretend she is a man which calls "onabe" おナベ, then it's not strange at all when she calls herself "boku".
Most of time girls call themselves "watashi", "atashi" or "uchi"(a strongly expression)
Terms for men will be: watashi, boku and ore.

girls use atashi between each others, boku are mostly for little boys. Watashi is more common.

The animated character of a girl sometimes uses it.

I have heard girls say Boku a few times. But it sounds a little strange because Boku is usually used by boys, sometimes by Anime girls.
