qué es ella?
my text book says it means "what is her job?"
it sounds to me like "what is she?", does that sentence really have that meaning?

@Armyveteran oh! I understand what you’re asking. Yes. “Que es Ella” can be the indirect meaning of asking someone what their job is. It is not very common, but can be used in a conversation. This is usually when someone assumes the other person knows they are talking about their job.

You’re right, it is saying “what is she”. If you want to ask what is her job, you would say “Cuál es su trabajo?”

@Armyveteran I’m not really sure what you’re trying to ask 😅 “Que es ella” means “what is she”. “Cual es su trabajo” means “what is her job”. That is the meaning. I hope this answers your question!

@itsnatalie I mean, the first and direct meaning of "qué es ella?" is "what is she?" but is there the meaning "what is her job?" in the second and indirect meaning?
