taken from a previous answer of mine:
Tagalog is a language spoken in the northern island of Luzón. It is native to that area. When the Philippine government wanted to create a national language for all citizens to speak, they invented a language called "Filipino". The Filipino language was invented and created by using Tagalog as the base language. The goal of the invented Filipino language is to have it evolve by incorporating elements from other languages whether other Philippine languages or not. The problem is, the constructed Filipino language cannot evolve because it is being regulated by the Commission on the Filipino language, an organization that oversees the invented language. As of today, the Filipino language is still comprehensible to Tagalog speakers, so the Filipino language is a dialect of Tagalog in that manner. A form of the Filipino language is also Taglish, because the Filipino language allows elements from other languages too, so Taglish is a type of Filipino dialect.
In our country we have over 150+ languages spoken.
The official languages are English and Filipino.
There are also commonly spoken languages that you'll hear from different regions. The most commonly spoken Philippine languages are Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, Waray-waray, Pangansinense, Chavacano, Cuyonon, Kapampangan, Bicolano and so on.
Visayan (Bisaya) is not a language. It is a language family branch among Philippine languages. Within the Visayan language family are Visayan languages such as: Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Waray-waray, Masbateño, Surigaonon, Akeanon, and so on.
Spanish is still spoken in the country as is well alive too. The only problem is that there are not a lot of Spanish speakers left who speak Spanish natively as a mother tongue, although they do exist. The Spanish language in the Philippines is regulated by the Real Academia Filipina. The Spanish language will never disappear from the country at all. Philippine Spanish is also a unique dialect of Spanish spoken by Filipinos. There is even Spanish literature from the Philippines and our national anthem is in Spanish.

you shouldn't trust a source that gets edited by anyone. it's unprofessional and not scholarly done.
you're right that filipino is an official language, but very wrong that we have so many dialects and that english is considered our second language when it is not for the majority of non-Tagalog Filipinos.

they're not called dialects. they're languages and deserve their linguistic right to be called so.
English is taught in schools but that doesn't mean it's my second language. Cebuano is my first, then the Filipino dialect of Tagalog is my second.
