Consequence usually implies a negative outcome (even though it literally means the result of an action or condition), and result is a neutral term. "I did not study for my exam, so I suffered the consequences". Consequence can also be used to describe the importance or relevance of something. "The test was of no consequence." meaning that the test was not important.
