@Euciph: It depends on what kind of question you can or want to ask, those questions are an easy indicator what casus you need to use (Nominativ, Akkusativ, Dativ, Genitiv)
I guess in Englisch the same difference is used in who and whom.
Who do I see?
Whom belongs the ticket?
Casus are hard to explain in languages that don't have so many.
