This is correct.
And are you sure someone said that to you? If you really want to know the meaning I could tell you. Actually, it's quite poetic, I'm pretty sure I heard this from a poem too 😊 (meanings are open for interpretation from poems)
Basically what this means is that just because someone likes to explore and do things their own way without an ultimate goal doesn't mean they're "lost" - not physically anyway, spiritually and mentally; they are prepared. To wander means to explore obliviously (in this sense) ) so what this line is saying is to enjoy the journey and to experiment in order to find the right solution in your life. Some people may not have goals set out, but that is okay - it's the journey that matters. 😊
Sorry, but it has quite a deep meaning so I can't imagine that someone would be sarcastic about it😄

Warning, long
Just because someone may not seem to have direction or a goal, doesn't mean that they're lost. Some souls need to explore & satisfy their curiosities. For them the value is in the journey, not the destination
Fun fact! Originally this quote came from Lord of the Rings

I'm gonna be honest with you;
This doesn't seem like a true statement, because people who wonder away in the wrong direction have NO IDEA what's going on. The further and further they go, the more lost and bewildered they become.

it's saying something like although someone might have a lifestyle where they appear to have no set route or goal (e.g move around a lot, travel or change jobs frequently) it doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have a purpose. Its hard to explain but I hope that helps.

It's a kind of metaphor so it can mean different things depending on the person.
I think it means people who don't act in the same way as everyone else are not always wrong. It's OK to do things in your own way or at your own pace. Often when you do things in a different way or don't follow the rules people think you're wrong but maybe your way is the right way.

It’s a saying which means just because you are free and don’t know where you are going doesn’t mean you are lost. It’s a lovely saying.

This is a proverb/saying, which often means that just because you do not have a clear path in life YET, doesn't mean you have not got a purpose.
