It's a pun; "what's up?" is a way of asking "how are you?" or "what's going on?", and here, the mom responds with "the ceiling?" because the ceiling is always upwards of you. The ceiling is literally always up. So, she jokingly answered a slang question as if it were literal.

No it's not a slang, It's just a joke. Ceiling here means the above floor/roof..
In that conversation, The son asked What's up? It's a slang language but in literal english.. it would means what's above you.. so the mom replied the ceiling as joke..
