Carve = you use a sharp implement to take away parts of something to form a shape
I carved the turkey to serve it.
I carved a dog out of a block of wood.
Engrave = using a sharp tool, you engrave a picture or writing into a flat surface
I engraved numbers into the plastic cases of the laptops.
Inscribed = written on (like engraved)
(I don't think I would use inscribe as an action verb.)
I looked at the back of the locket and saw there were names inscribed there.
