Machines make things- like clothes, print newspapers, robots that manufacture cars, things like that.
Machines are also equipment.
Equipment can be tools like hammers and saws that don't have moving parts.

Machine is a singular noun or a verb. The noun covers two things:
Firstly, an object made up of a number of parts designed to perform a task. It has an input, normally power of some description, and generates an output such as a product or a movement. Examples of this may be a drill or a printer. The plural of machines in this way is Machines
Secondly, It can be a plan or scheme. The plural of this is machinations.
As a verb it means to operate or put in place either of these machines as in 'I began to machine away the metal with the lathe.' 'Her machine to destroy their relationship was in place'.
Equipment is also usable as a noun or verb. The noun means the things required for a given task. The subtlety of difference with machine is that equipment doesn't inherently do anything. It does not convert anything to anything else. For instance a piece of welding equipment is a safety visor. It doesn't do anything but it is essential for the task (if you value your sight, that is.)
As a verb, equipment is used to indicate the process of furnishing something with the equipment required for the task. For instance; 'I need to equipment my new workshop this afternoon.' or 'The equipment of the army was an expensive and lengthy process.'
