Technically, both can mean "to wake someone up".
More typically, "rouse" means "to wake someone up" and "arouse" usually has sexual connotations.
"He roused her from her nap" means he woke her up.
"He aroused her" means he turned her on
Arouse can also be used to mean "to cause a feeling" as in "The thief's behavior aroused suspicion,"
or "to excite (not sexually)" as in "The speech aroused them to take action"
or even sometimes "to wake" as in "The noise aroused the dog." You would NOT say "He aroused her" to mean "he woke her up"
I would be very careful with this one, though, because in modern speech or writing, "arouse" is almost always associated with less appropriate topics.

thank you so much ,but i just realize that my question is the difference between arouse and ignite as you can see in the pic. Q44
- English (US)
@zhaoqitong Ah, so that's a tricky one. In the example, "arouse" means "to stimulate a reaction," which is not a conventional use for "ignite." "Ignite" literally means "to light a fire," but metaphorically, it can also mean "to inspire passion/excitement" (In the latter sense, you might hear "The lecture ignited her interest in social justice", or "The question ignited a heated debate." In these examples, "ignite" is being used metaphorically to suggest a spark of passion. You would not say that something "ignited" a physical reaction, though, unless you literally meant to start a fire.)
Does that help at all? The question is getting at a subtle distinction.

@dappywise plus, I also has a confusion of the two word“distinct”and “distinctive”,which you may explain them for me ,thankyou!!! Q.33 !!
- English (US)
@zhaoqitong Wow that's a tricky one too! "Distinctive" usually refers to a trait that is special to a certain group/person. Distinctive suggests something that sets someone/something apart from others. "He recognized her distinctive voice" for example, or "The university is known for its distinctive honors program."
"Distinct" means separate or discrete, rather than *the quality* that makes something separate or discrete. "There were three distinct possibilities" (meaning there were three separate possibilities) is one example where you would definitely use distinct and not distinctive.
"He recognized her distinct voice," would mean "He recognized her voice out of all the others" and NOT "He recognized her characteristic/unique voice"
Does that help?
(You will hear native speakers use "distinct" to mean "distinctive" so it can be confusing!)
